The Changing Seasons – January

One of my fellow bloggers Cardinal Guzman from Oslo, has decided to set us all a new photo challenge.  On the same day each month for a year we are to post between 5 and 20 new photos of a particular area of our city or town. The idea is to see how the area changes over the seasons.  Many of the participants live in Europe and the US so will no doubt experience much more change over the seasons than we do here but I thought it would be an interesting thing to do anyway.

The area I selected is around the Flinders St Station/ Southbank/Federation Square precinct of Melbourne.  I took my first month’s photos this evening. The city was very busy with tourists and locals, out and about and enjoying the warm evening. Some were watching the tennis on the big screen in Federation Square.  Many others were dining in the restaurants or enjoying a drink in the bars around the river.  It was a lovely night and reminded me that I live in a very beautiful city. Here are the photos I selected.

    1. Thanks Lucile. It’s nice to have the opportunity to showcase Melbourne to the world. It really is a beautiful city. I’m a little intrigued myself to see how things change over the year.

      1. That’s why I liked this idea from Cardinal so much. We will be surprised to see changes that we get used to and perhaps didn’t notice small changes that create a new image.

    1. Thanks Val. I was trying to find shots that weren’t too cliched which is a bit hard around there. X

  5. Hi Michelle – really enjoying your photos – they are wonderful. I assume with your love of New York you already know about the New York Institute of Photography http://www.nyip.edu/ – their short or long courses would be a great way to spend some time in NY – cheers Jennie

  6. Popping in from the challenge! Thought I’d have a look at Melbourne to get away from the northern winter photos 🙂 I look forward to seeing how Melbourne changes over the months. The city of ‘four seasons in one day’ should produce some interesting shots 😉
