The photo I’ve selected for this week’s theme of Depth was taken at the Basilica Cistern, located beneath the city of Istanbul. It was built in the 6th century and is a massive 10,000 square metres in area. The ceiling is supported by 336, 9 metre high, marble columns – two of the columns have blocks carved with the image of Medusa at their base. Walking around the cistern is a fascinating although somewhat eerie experience, due mostly to the low lighting and the ghostly images of fish swimming around in the water.
Striking shot.

Great photography but can see why it would have felt eerie, gives off that vibe looking at it. Well done again

A beautiful example of linear perspective for my students, thanks! 🙂 I also love the warm red glow. By the way, I have just nominated you for a Liebster Award. The details are on my latest post at https://paypackandfollow.wordpress.com
I know awards aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and won’t be offended if you decline. But I do hope you will accept it in the spirit it is given, – warm and fuzzy, – I think your blog is awesome! 🙂 Sandy

Hi Sandy. I really do appreciate you nominating me for a Liebster Award but think I’ll decline. I’m not sure that I’d have the time to do everything that is required. Just having you say that you think my blog is awesome is all the recognition I need. Again thanks.
