This week’s challenge is to use the Rule of Thirds, a concept that puts the subject of the photograph off-centre. It’s worth trying when you are framing your shot as it can make it much more interesting.
The photograph I’m using for this challenge puts my subject – the cow – in the top third of the frame. I wanted people to be drawn to the cow but also be interested in the textures of the long grass in the foreground.

Great photo. But I do have to say this once the rule of thirds has been poorly explained. The explanation confuses negative space with rule of thirds. Given your photo, just keep shooting, forget the rules.

Thanks so much for the feedback Victor. I did wonder this myself as I hadn’t seen the two concepts combined in this way before. I don’t like to think to much about rules when I shoot – I just go with what feels right.
