Weekly Photo Challenge – Ephemeral

When thinking about the definition of “Ephemeral” for this week’s challenge, i.e. fleeting, transient, lasting only for a short time, it occurred to me that it is a great word to describe the opportunities we have when taking street photographs. Often, the chance for the perfect shot can be fleeting and momentary, and sometimes it’s just good luck that you release the shutter at exactly the right moment.

This week I’m featuring a photo from my travels in Italy. I was standing at the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome and it had just started to rain. I noticed a tour group waiting under their brightly coloured umbrellas at the bottom of the steps. Just as I took the shot the man in the middle of the group looked up as if he was posing for me.

    1. I agree. Since posting the photo I’ve noticed quite a few looking up at me. I like photos that reveal something new each time you look at it.

  4. I love this shot!! Absolutely gorgeous.
I do agree with you. When shooting we have seconds to capture a scene we never imagined. That’s the beauty of street photography.
    Thanks.

  5. Good choice Michelle. First thing I noticed was the couple under the blue umbrella, they also seem to be looking at you.

    1. Thanks Lyn. Yes, since publishing the photo I’ve noticed quite a few looking at the camera. It’s funny how different people see different things.
