I missed September in The Changing Seasons series as I was away in Fiji. Unfortunately it was a pretty important month to miss as so much changed in Melbourne in those few short weeks.
Before I left the plane trees outside my window and throughout the city were bare. When I returned they were covered with leaves and spreading their pollen across the city, and sending residents into chemists for hay fever medication. I was surprised at how much the temperature had changed while I was away. It’s been really hot for this time of year with some days well into the 30s.
I’ve been out a few of times with my camera over the past weeks. This afternoon I wandered around the Southbank/Federation Square precinct, taking mostly street photographs. So many people were out enjoying the warm weather – in the bars and cafes having Friday night drinks with colleagues and friends or relaxing on the lawn beside the river. It’s a great time of year in Melbourne – spring is here and summer is just around the corner.

It’s a bit too far away Michelle, but I’ll be in “the neighborhood” in the beginning of November (going to Bangkok).

I still have photos from the North of Norway plus a whole bunch from Italy that I haven’t posted yet! 🙂 Luxury problem to have all that material, but my blogging has been on semi-hiatus lately (been turning into a weird combination of gym-rat/book worm lately: a super fit, healthy, strong geek – haha).
I’ll take a lot of pictures in both Prague and Bangkok, but I probably won’t have time to post them before after new years.

I understand. I’ve been a bit tardy myself over the past few months but definitely not for the same reasons as you. Well maybe the bookworm part. Maybe you could put the odd shot up on Instagram.

Great shots. I am often concerned about taking recognisable shots of people, more so in my home town, for fear of invading people’s privacy. Should I be so concerned? I do take shots of ‘interesting folk’ when travelling, but feel uneasy about using them.

Thanks Francesca. Yes, it is also something I think about when I publish street photos. I don’t publish anything that might be embarrassing for the person if they were to see it.

Wonderful series Michelle. I adore this gallery. They show such life. And every day life is beautifully captured. I particularly love the boy on the lips bench, the four boys looking like they’re about to gang up someone and the girl waiting amongst others at the tram(?) stop. Brilliant, can’t wait to get there!!

Fabulous street photography this month and I love the way you mix the black and white with the colour. One thing i have noticed is how young Melburnians are or maybe that is the demographic you notice the most. Where I live it is a bit too skewed on the elderly…

Probably a little of both. You tend to get more young people in the city centre but I also suspect the average age of Melburnians is on the younger side.

I imagine that is the same in most large cities, go to the suburbs and it will be quite different.
