This is my last post for the current Changing Seasons series. The series was established by blogging friend Cardinal Guzman from Oslo back in January and each month bloggers from all over the world have been posting shots of their home city.
The idea of the series was to highlight the seasonal changes that occur in our cities throughout the year. This has not been easy here in Melbourne as we don’t get snow or the extreme cold weather conditions that many North American or European cities experience.
As I am writing this post however, it is 41 degrees (106 fahrenheit) and very windy, and we are certainly experiencing extreme hot weather conditions for so early in the summer. Outside the smell of smoke in the air tells me there is a bush fire somewhere on the outskirts of the city (a quick check of a news site confirms it is to the north). This will be one of many fires that crop up across the state today and the heat and strong winds will make it difficult for our firefighters to get them under control. Unfortunately this is a reality of life here in Australia throughout the summer months.
For my final Changing Seasons post I’m featuring the beautiful city of Melbourne from the air. I have posted photos from time to time of balloons floating by my apartment and decided it was time to try it for myself. Unfortunately the wind conditions meant that I didn’t go directly over the central business district, but I did go close enough to get some shots across the inner suburbs (including my own suburb of Abbotsford) to the city.

Thanks Jude. It was a lot of fun seeing Melbourne from the air. Thankfully no loss of life yesterday although some people lost their homes. It is certainly getting hotter.

Bizarre how you seem to be having Sydney weather and we seem to be having Melbourne weather. Hope VIC doesn’t experience too much devastation from the fires.

Thanks Lisa. It’s definitely not scary when you’re up there – very quiet and peaceful. Yes, Australian weather is very unpredictable although we’re getting pretty standard weather for this time of the year (hot and dry) at the moment.

Oh?!?! Sydneysiders had lead me to believe it was cooler and wetter there in Melbourne for the summer. Lovely to know you get a ‘full on’ summer 🌞

No – definitely not. Our summer is generally dry and very hot with many days in the high 30s and low 40s. We don’t get the humidity that Sydney experiences which suits me very well.

Well am still hopeful I can visit there soon. We should know in the next week whether The Captain will remain in Sydney or return to Italy. Sydney offers some promising alternatives.

These are absolutely stunning shots of Melbourne from above in the hotair balloon. Amazing and love the clarity in them. My favourite have to be the ones of the Eureka Tower and the Arts Centre. Looked like you had a peaceful ride. Where did you take off? I’ve always wanted to try it at some point and hear it’s best to book it in advance.

Thanks Mabel. It was an amazing experience. My only disappointment was that we didn’t get closer to the city. We left from a sports ground in Bundoora and landed at Burnley Park in Richmond. The start and end points can change daily depending on the wind. You should definitely give it a go.

Nice pics. I live in the Macedon Ranges and do venture to LaTrobe every day. I thought I’d give the changing seasons thing a go. But it is hard accentuate seasonal change in Victoria. Cheers Michael
