Since returning from my recent visit to Shanghai I’ve been asked many times about the smog. How bad was it? Was the sky ever blue? Did it affect me or my plans in any way?
Yes, most days were smoggy, some worse than others. But the smog certainly didn’t impinge on my plans or my capacity to enjoy everything this amazing city had to offer. It’s also worth noting that the people of Shanghai are very, very conscious of the problem and are working hard to fix it.
From a photography perspective the smog sometimes worked in my favour. The photo I’ve selected for this week’s challenge is a good example. On this particular evening the city was enveloped in smog but with the sun setting behind it the sky took on a lovely golden haze. As we travelled towards the stunning Nanpu bridge I managed to get a half decent shot of the bridge with the beautiful sky as a backdrop.
It is a lovely photo and perfect for the theme but knowing what’s causing the haze means it wouldn’t work for me on an advertising poster. 🙂

The haze is so thick it almost looks like a blanket. Amazing shot Michelle.
