I love street art. Fortunately my new neighbourhood attracts some of Melbourne’s most talented street artists so I’m able to indulge my passion every time I go out for a walk.  Some pieces look like they should be on a gallery wall.  Others are simple, almost crude, but just as interesting. Here is just a […]

Today we are asked to ‘share an image that creates a sense of mystery’. I was looking at this recent shot and realised that there was a second ghostly figure behind the man walking down the lane adding an air of mystery to the photo. I’ve lightened it slightly so that the figure is a […]

Today’s theme for the Photography101 challenge is ‘Warmth’ and is about using the sun to create warmth in our photograph. I took this shot with my iPhone while out walking one morning recently. I like the effect gained from pointing the camera into the morning sun while it was filtering through the buildings and trees. I […]

This photo was taken on the island of Taha’a in French Polynesia where we observed these funny little crabs scurrying around wherever we walked. I believe they’re called Tupa or Land Crabs and are able to very quickly dig their way into the sand when they feel threatened. Fortunately this little fellow was not able […]

Melbourne has many landmarks but my favourite is the Forum Theatre.  Built in 1929 in the ‘Moorish Revival’ style the theatre is beautiful and slightly quirky.  Inside, the cerulean blue ceiling gives the feeling of being seated under an open evening sky, with twinkling stars and clouds.

This bridge crosses the Yarra River near my home. It provides a vital link to the popular Yarra Bend Park and is in constant use by cyclists, joggers and locals out walking with their dog, family or friends. I thought it a very fitting subject for today’s theme of connect.

My second challenge this weekend is take some photos in black and white. Anyone who has followed my blog in the past knows that I LOVE colour. Whenever I have a camera in my hand I gravitate towards bright colours – a red bicycle, autumn leaves, a sunset, a brightly painted building – so black […]

There are no specific themes for the weekend. Instead we’re encouraged to try something we’ve learnt this week. In this post I’ve created a small gallery of some favourite photos from my trip to Rome earlier this year.

I spotted this shack when sailing from Raiatea to Taha’a, in French Polynesia. It was surrounded by water and very ramshackle. It fascinated me and I imagined a Robinson Crusoe type character spending his days there in total solitude – perhaps a writer trying to finish what he hoped would be the next great novel.

I am in Barcelona sitting at a table in a square, enjoying lunch and a glass of wine. It is a warm afternoon. Everywhere I look is picture perfect – a cathedral opposite and the sun sparkling through the trees above, casting shadows of the leaves on the ground before me. Two beautifully dressed people […]
