Photography101 – weekend 3 – hone your camera eye
As the title suggests we’re encouraged to practice some of the techniques we’ve been learning throughout the month. This week I’ve played with black and white, colour and movement, depth, and capturing architecture from many different perspectives.
Marvellous Melbourne
A few weeks ago I read an article in The Age titled “Inside story of how Melbourne became marvellous all over again” http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/inside-story-of-how-melbourne-became-marvellous-all-over-again-20141031-11d7f9.html The article talked about the Melbourne CBD’s astonishing renaissance over the past twenty years and used some pretty convincing data as evidence – an increase in residents from 2,100 to 116,431; of […]
Photography101 – Day 13 – Moment
Today we are asked to show a fleeting moment in our photograph. This one was taken at the night market in Melbourne. The colourful costume combined with the movement of the dance provided a perfect ‘moment’ for me to capture.
Photography101 – Day 12 – Architecture
The theme for today’s photography assignment is ‘architecture’. The Collingwood Town Hall is not far from my home and a great subject for this theme. It was built between 1885 and 1890 in the ‘Second Empire’ style and is considered one of the finest Town Halls in Australia.
Street Art
I love street art. Fortunately my new neighbourhood attracts some of Melbourne’s most talented street artists so I’m able to indulge my passion every time I go out for a walk. Some pieces look like they should be on a gallery wall. Others are simple, almost crude, but just as interesting. Here is just a […]
Photography101 – Day 10 – Mystery
Today we are asked to ‘share an image that creates a sense of mystery’. I was looking at this recent shot and realised that there was a second ghostly figure behind the man walking down the lane adding an air of mystery to the photo. I’ve lightened it slightly so that the figure is a […]
Photography101 – Day 9 – Warmth
Today’s theme for the Photography101 challenge is ‘Warmth’ and is about using the sun to create warmth in our photograph. I took this shot with my iPhone while out walking one morning recently. I like the effect gained from pointing the camera into the morning sun while it was filtering through the buildings and trees. I […]
Photography101 – Day 7 – Landmark
Melbourne has many landmarks but my favourite is the Forum Theatre. Built in 1929 in the ‘Moorish Revival’ style the theatre is beautiful and slightly quirky. Inside, the cerulean blue ceiling gives the feeling of being seated under an open evening sky, with twinkling stars and clouds.
Photography101 – weekend challenge 2 – black and white
My second challenge this weekend is take some photos in black and white. Anyone who has followed my blog in the past knows that I LOVE colour. Whenever I have a camera in my hand I gravitate towards bright colours – a red bicycle, autumn leaves, a sunset, a brightly painted building – so black […]
Photography101 – Days 1 and 2
I’ve joined a WordPress photo-blogging group with the goal of posting a themed picture each weekday for the month of November. I’m a day behind so today I’m posting two photos. The theme for day 1 is “home” and this is my entry. This photo was taken from the window of my home in Abbotsford […]
