Lunar New Year

Today there is a festival at the end of my street to celebrate Lunar New Year and the year of the goat. Tens of thousands of Vietnamese people came to Melbourne in the 1970’s as refugees and then in the 1980’s through migration programs.  Since that time Victoria Street in Richmond – also known as […]

Last days of Jean Paul

After seeing countless photographs from the exhibition on Facebook and Instagram I feel I must be the only person in Melbourne who hasn’t attended the The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, showing at the National Gallery of Victoria. Clearly not, as when I arrive at the 10am opening […]

The Changing Seasons – January

One of my fellow bloggers Cardinal Guzman from Oslo, has decided to set us all a new photo challenge.  On the same day each month for a year we are to post between 5 and 20 new photos of a particular area of our city or town. The idea is to see how the area changes […]

Meet Little Audrey

Meet Little Audrey! Audrey has been a hugely popular Melbourne landmark since 1936. She was originally constructed as an advertisement for Skipping Girl vinegar and was Australia’s first animated neon sign. Little Audrey skipped on top of the vinegar factory until 1968 when it was demolished.  Unfortunately Whelan the Wrecker claimed ownership of Audrey and […]

Black and white photo challenge – day 4

This is the fourth photo of my five day black and white challenge. This photo was taken during a walk around my neighbourhood.  I normally like shooting street art in colour but this one worked well in black and white, especially as it reveals the texture of the bricks.

Black and white challenge – day 2

This photo was taken during a recent visit to the State Library of Victoria.  The library, located in the centre of Melbourne, was built in 1859 and features a beautiful domed reading room. The dome was covered by a copper ceiling in 1959 because of a leaky roof and stayed that way for 44 years. […]

Collingwood Children’s Farm

The Collingwood Children’s Farm is a stone’s throw from my home and only a few kilometres from the centre of Melbourne.  The Farm was established in 1979 by a community committee and relies heavily on donations and volunteers to run. There are range of animals on the farm including goats, sheep, horses, ducks, pigs, chickens, […]

Monochrome Melbourne

It’s been weeks since I posted a photograph so I decided to take advantage of the great weather and a day off work and wandered about central Melbourne taking some black and white shots. Normally I’d write about what I saw but today I’m going to let the photographs show you instead.
